Background: As a result of project undertaken by Emilie Cortez-McCall during her placement with the Immigration Department in 1991, the support group was formed to provide a support network for Filipino women living in Tasmania. It was incorporated in April 1993. The first management officers were elected that year. Management: The support group is composed of management committee who are elected triennially. Management committee is comprised of Filipino women who manage and coordinate activities. The committee is open to women of Filipino ethnic origin who are eighteen years and over. Management meetings are held on third Saturday bi-monthly. Assistance provided by the support group is wholly voluntary. Membership: Membership is open to women of Filipino ethnic origin aged 18 years and over and resident of Tasmania. The current annual membership fee is $7.00; this may increase from time to time as determined during triennial general meeting.
The support group is mainly self-sufficient. Operating funds are raised through various fundraising activities and donations. Specific projects are only undertaken when grants are received from either the local, state or federal government. Services: The support group endeavours to:
